This week, we’re in the midst of Winter Storm Orlena!
Although we wish we could take a snow day, online work still beckons (and 4-month-old Gabriella isn’t exactly “there” yet with the concept of relaxing), so we’re plowing ahead.
But we’re warming up with one of my absolute winter favorites – our special Ginger Hot Chocolate.
Michael innovated this variation on hot cocoa in November 2016, when we took these homemade hot drinks on the go for the Macy’s parade Inflation Celebration at a client’s apartment. This event takes place on Thanksgiving Eve when the parade balloons are blown up at the Museum of Natural History, and at the time, I had a client who lived directly overlooking that park. Since that time, both that client and I have left the Upper West Side, but the beverage lives on. In this kind of weather, we literally make it almost every single day.
Here’s how you make it for two:
- 2 cups milk of choice (dairy, almond, oat, etc.)
- 4 tablespoons cocoa powder (I’m obsessed with Hershey’s Special Dark variety)
- 2 droppers Trader Joe’s liquid stevia, or other stevia of choice
- Vanilla extract to taste
- Powdered ginger to taste
Combine all ingredients in a small pot over medium heat, and whisk until it’s hot and ready to drink!
This “secret” recipe has been a client favorite for years. I hope you enjoy it this week! Stay warm!
